Position: Development Director
Primary Responsibilities:
Provide leadership and management of fund-raising efforts through personal interactions with donors:
- Create and coordinate programs to add to the organization’s support base among individuals, charitable foundations, corporations, and other sources.
Fundraising:
- Research, identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors to maintain and increase annual, endowment and planned gifts to APLFF.
- Develop and maintain long-term relationships with donors and prospects.
- Develop and execute the APLFF’s annual fundraising plan and timeline, and coordinate with the APLFF Fundraising and other committees, and Ames Public Library staff, when appropriate, to enhance the development process and each committee’s respective responsibilities.
- Work with the APLFF Board and Ames Public Library Director to identify funds needed, funding targets, and approaches.
Build and maintain donor database:
- Maintain donor records in APLFF’s database.
- Develop and track proposals and reports for foundation and corporate fundraising.
- Coordinate support staff on appropriate gift acceptance, acknowledgement, and data entry for all gifts.
Represents the Ames Public Library Friend Foundation:
- Present to community groups to increase awareness of the importance of APLFF funding for the superior/extra services offered by the Ames Public Library.
- Represent the APLFF in the community and advocate for APLFF’s support of the Ames Public Library.
Provides Regular Reporting of efforts:
- Report fundraising efforts and outcomes at least monthly.
- Attend monthly APLFF Board meetings and liaise with board committees as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Successful experience in nonprofit fundraising or equivalent experience.
- Engaging, positive attitude with exceptional people skills. Demonstrated ability to develop productive relationships within the library, the APLFF board and the community.
- Integrity, sound judgment, and an ability to work confidentially in all matters.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
- Working knowledge of the legal and financial aspects of philanthropic giving.
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Office, database, and fundraising management software such as Salsa
